Creating a new section group
If you right-click or press and hold on a section tab or on a blank space on the section tab bar, you’ll see a Create New Section Group item. Use this to create a totally new group of section tabs underneath the existing one. When in another section group, you’ll see an up arrow to the right of the notebook name; click or tap that arrow to go up a level to the parent section group.
Creating a new note page When you create a new section, a new note page is automatically created, called simply Untitled Page. Follow these steps to add a new page:
- Open the notebook and section you want to add a new page to.
- Click or tap the Add Page item in the sidebar at the right side of the OneNote window.
- Right-click or press and hold on the page’s name and choose Rename to rename the page; use the physical or onscreen keyboard to type.
protect with passwords
Adding a password to a section Adding a password to a section is a quick process. Here’s how:
- Select the Review tab in OneNote and click or tap the Password button. The Password Protection pane appears at the right side of the window,
- Select the Set Password button. The Password Protection window appears.
- Enter a password in the two fields on the Password Protection window and click or tap OK. A pop-up window appears asking if you want to keep or delete existing backups of the section that do not have the password. If you choose to delete the existing backups, future backups will be password-protected just like the original. Make sure you keep your password written down or somewhere else; if you lose it, you will also lose your data.
Removing a password from a section You can remove a password from a section easily as long as you have the section’s password. To remove the password protection from a section, follow these steps:
- Select the Review tab in OneNote and click or tap the Password button. The Password Protection pane appears at the right side of the window. Select the Remove Password button. The Remove Password window appears with a single field.
- Enter the correct password in the field and click or tap OK.
use Quick Notes
One of the beautiful features of OneNote is its ability to accept file and document types of all kinds, including those from other Microsoft Office apps. Because OneNote is currently the only Office app on iOS and Android platforms, if you want to access non-OneNote Office data on those devices you can use OneNote to do so. In some cases, but not all, you can even work with that data.
how to insert and work with file content from other major Office apps as well as how to use the Send to OneNote Tool to capture screen shots and write quick notes.
- Inserting data as a printout When you insert data as a printout, OneNote treats it just like a real printout in a real binder. Because the printout is a static image, you can’t edit the original document using its original formatting, but you can mark it up with ink Here’s how to add a Word document as a printout in your note:
- Open your note and place your cursor in a note page where you want the printout to appear. The printout appears below and to the right of the cursor.
- Select the Insert tab and click or tap File Printout.
- Inserting data as file attachments You can insert Office documents as attachments, which embeds an image of the icon for the associated Office app and the name of the file. You then double-click the icon to open it in its default app. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open your note and place your cursor in a note page where you want the attachment to appear. The attachment appears below and to the right of the cursor.
- Select the Insert tab and click or tap File Attachment with the paperclip icon on it. A Browse window appears.
- Browse to the file you want, select it, and then click or tap Insert.
- Select Attach File.
- Inserting file data manually If you want to insert individual elements of a file from another Office app into OneNote, you can. You may or may not be able to work with the item that you’re pasting into OneNote, but you can get it in there; simply copy the content in the open document in the other Office app and paste it into OneNote wherever you want it.
