Microsoft Help:-
OneNote’s ability to capture images and instantly insert them into a note saved Anthony from having to scan and import images of the prescription pages.
Retrieving Text from Images Of course, it’s such a killer feature. Simply right-click a photo or image in OneNote 2013 and choose Copy Text from Picture, and you’ve got the text from the image on your clipboard. Make your screenshot as high-quality as possible to ensure that you get the actual text from the image. The feature also doesn’t work as well if your image is too dark or if the text is in a funky font. Even in those cases, though, you probably can get at least some of the text from the image and avoid at least a bit of retyping.
Grabbing a Screen Clipping and Marking It Up you can snap screenshots using the OneNote 2013 Clipping Tool. After dropping the screenshot into OneNote, using your pen you can use Office’s ink features to mark up the image. This can be useful in any situation where you want to add notes to an image and share it; say if you’re working on developing a website and want to show your collaborators what you feel needs to change with the current iteration of the site. Of course, you can use actual text if you don’t have access to a PC capable of digital pen technology like Surface Pro. You can even use your mouse pointer as a pen to draw if your "mouse handwriting" is good enough.
Marking Up Documents with a Pen If you have access to a digital pen-capable PC like Microsoft’s Surface Pro, marking up documents in OneNote is simple. However, if you want to retain some semblance of the formatting, it’s best done by including a printout of the document rather than pasting the content of a document into the note page. If you have access on the digital pen-capable PC to other Office 2013 apps, in some cases, you can use the pen to mark up the documents in that app, as is the case with Word 2013. Other apps are pickier; for example you can write a new e-mail using the pen and ink, but you can’t reply to a non-ink message using the pen.
Copying Links to Specific Paragraphs If you want to link people to a specific part of a OneNote page, simply right-click or press and hold on the paragraph or note container that you want to link to and choose the Copy Link to Paragraph option to copy a link to that note and paragraph to your PC’s clipboard. You can then paste the link wherever you want.
Searching Text in Images If you drop an image into OneNote and want the text in it to be searchable later, right-click or press and hold on the image and choose Make Text in Image Searchable and choose the appropriate language from the list.
Adding and Manipulating Images
Images can be a critical part of your notes, and OneNote gives you multiple methods of adding images to notes. Whether you want to paste an image in from your Clipboard or add an image from a folder on your computer, OneNote has got you covered. The following sections describe the various methods of adding images to your OneNote documents.
- Adding images by copying and pasting You can copy images from any web page by right-clicking or pressing and holding on an image and choosing Copy Image or a similar command from your browser’s context menu to copy the image to your Windows Clipboard. Then you just paste the image into another application and save the image in a place where you can find it.
- In addition to using your browser to copy images, you can capture your whole screen or individual windows to the Windows Clipboard — such as your author did to capture screenshots for this book — using the PrtSc/SysRq key. You can then paste the image into Microsoft Paint or other document-editing software and save it normally.
- Press Ctrl+V.
- Right-click or press and hold on the place in the document where you want the image and then choose Paste.
- Adding images by inserting OneNote allows you to insert images from a folder on your computer as well as from a few other sources, including Microsoft’s voluminous online clip art repository, a Bing Image Search, or your Flickr or SkyDrive account. Follow these steps to insert an image using the Insert tab on the Ribbon:
- With a document open, select the Insert tab on the Ribbon and then select either Pictures or Online Pictures in the Images section.
- If you chose Pictures, on your hard drive, navigate to the photo that you want to add and then click or tap Insert. If you chose Online Pictures, choose the service you want to add from, find and select an image, and choose Insert.
- In the case of clip art or a Bing Image Search, enter a search term, select the Search button (it looks like a magnifying glass), choose the image, and then select Insert.
- Adding images via the Screen Clipping tool The Screen Clipping tool in OneNote 2013 has been dramatically improved. on using the Screen Clipping Tool to add images to your notes. Screen captures, or clippings, are useful in all sorts of cases, from showing someone your favorite desktop background to creating documentation — even books such as this one — that shows things that may be hard for your readers to visualize and to help them orient themselves to the tasks you’re discussing. Although for years you’ve been able to capture a screenshot with the Print Screen keyboard button, you can capture only the entire screen with that key or press Alt+Print Screen to capture just the active window. Those were your two choices. With the Screen Clipping tool in OneNote, you can highlight just the part of the screen you want to capture and grab it so that you don’t have an extra step of cropping out parts of the screen or window that you don’t want. You are thus
essentially cropping the shot as you take it. Here’s how:
- Retrieve text from images OneNote has object content recognition (OCR) capabilities built into it, which allows you to retrieve text from images with just a few clicks or taps. Follow these steps to retrieve text from an image:
- Insert an image into your note as described in the previous sections.
- Right-click or press and hold on the image and choose Copy Text from Picture.
- Paste the text from the image into a new note or other document so that you can edit and format it as desired. OneNote will retrieve all text from the image. So that you don’t wind up with text from the interface that you don’t need, do yourself a favor and crop your image to just the text you want to retrieve using Paint or another graphics application.

Drawing
OneNote 2013 is the app Microsoft used to create and hone its digital pen technology, and when using OneNote with a pen device, you can truly get a lot more out of the app in terms of its writing and drawing capabilities than you can without one — writing and/ or drawing with a mouse is at best torture and at worst flat-out useless.
Navigating the Draw tab The Draw tab in OneNote 2013 represents the digital ink technologies that truly come alive with the digital pen. undernoted video shows the Draw tab, and the following list describes the various sections and commands on it. which having tools as follow:-
- Tools: This section includes all pen-and-ink-related items. On the left, you have various commands that change the way you work with items.
- Type: Allows you to work with your mouse and keyboard. When you start freaking out about how to get your mouse cursor back, you want to click or tap this.
- Lasso Select: Lasso items with your cursor to convert them or move them as a group.
- Panning Hand: Click or tap and drag the page around without affecting the elements on it.
- Erasers: You have several sizes of erasers to choose from. Use the Stroke Eraser to quickly delete entire strokes of ink rather than having to erase with an actual eraser.
- Pens and Highlighters Box: Here you’ll see the built-in pens and highlighters; click one to select it or customize one, and it’ll be added to your favorite pens automatically. At the bottom of the box, you’ll see the Pen Modedrop-down menu that lets you switch between drawing only, handwriting only, or drawing and handwriting. The Use Pen as Pointer option here allows you to appear to mark up the document, for example to circle an item to point it out to people in a sharing session, but the lines are not saved; they are merely indicatory.
- Color & Thickness: Choose a color for your custom pen or highlighter.
- Shapes: Choose from a number of shapes to draw onto your page. The Snap to Grid option forces shapes to snap to a grid if you’re using gridlines on your page. The Lock Drawing Mode is present if you aren’t using a pen device and helps you draw straight lines and shapes.
- Edit: Use these items to insert spacing, delete items, or arrange items by sending items in back of others or at the front of others, or to rotate items
- Convert: Select the ink you want to change, and press one of the two buttons here to convert ink to text or math.
