Maintaining the Windows Registry

The Windows registry is a database that lists all of the configuration settings that determine how Windows looks and behaves. which stores Windows settings, individual program settings, and other important configuration information about your PC
To open registry: In the search box, or Run window, type the following:
regedit
and then press Enter.
In registry window dialog box, The registry is made up of the following components:
- Keys
- Subkeys
- Values
To back up the registry, you required to be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. You can save the backup copy to a location you specify, such as a folder on your hard disk or a removable storage device. you can import the backup copy.
- Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, typing regedit into the search box, and then pressing Enter. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Locate and click the key or subkey that you want to back up.
- Click the File menu, and then click Export.
- In the Save in box, select the location where you want to save the backup copy to, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name box.
- Click Save.
